“It is vital when we are educating our children’s brains that we do not neglect to educate their hearts”- Dalai Lama.

Our “Connection to Self” principle relates to the “Being” component of the Early Years Learning Framework.  “Being” is about children establishing a strong sense of identity, developing our character and enjoying the moment.

Our programs support connection to self by offering children opportunities to express themselves artistically with the assistance of experienced artists, strengthen their bodies through daily yoga practice and calm their minds ready for learning through age appropriate mindfulness practice.  Children learn the importance of nutrition by growing, harvesting and preparing their own fresh produce.  We assist children in developing self regulation by offering them a range of tools they can use when “big feelings” arise.

Unique to the Barefoot program is the four “Wonderful Ways of Being” which assist children in their character development. Through our everyday interactions and discussions and age appropriate planned experiences, we introduce children to the concepts of love, kindness, respect and gratitude.

Children who develop a strong connection to self are more likely to grow up to find and choose the work they love, be in good relationships, honour their health and have a strong friendship circle.
